Indexed Error Codes for DJI
Machine-verified error code diagnostic walkthroughs
ESC Motor Overload Cutoff
Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) detected excessive current draw on one or more motor phases, triggering protective power cutoff to prevent MOSFET thermal runaway or winding burnout.
Battery Auto-Discharge Thermal Overheat
Error 30068 triggers when the internal Li-ion battery pack's Battery Management System (BMS) registers temperature thresholds exceeding 60°C during active operation or during the automated internal storage discharge cycle, forcing a safety shutdown to prevent thermal runaway.
ESC Status Motor Propulsion Failure
Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) telemetry fault indicating a phase current mismatch, locked rotor overcurrent protection, or damaged MOSFET driver on one of the 4-in-1 propulsion channels.
Forward LiDAR Calibration Failure
Error code 180031 indicates an initialization or calibration failure of the forward-facing time-of-flight (ToF) LiDAR sensor module. The flight controller flags this error when calibration offset parameters stored in EEPROM fail parity checks or when the optical transceiver returns zero-return or out-of-bounds echo matrices during self-test.
ESC Communication Abnormal Takeoff Failure
The main flight controller (FC) lost bi-directional telemetry or UART/CAN communication with the electronic speed controller (ESC) sub-board. Takeoff is interlocked to prevent uncontrolled motor desynchronization or mid-air power loss.
Gimbal Stuck & Motor Overload (Code 40002)
DJI Fly app alerts with error code 40002 stating 'Gimbal stuck. Check whether gimbal clamp is removed and rotate gimbal freely.' The 3-axis mechanical gimbal fails self-test upon drone boot, leading to video feed horizon tilt or total camera lock.
IMU Calibration Required (Code 1610008E)
DJI Goggles 3 HUD displays critical warning: 'Aircraft IMU abnormal. Recalibrate IMU (Code 1610008E)'. The CineWhoop cannot acquire flight readiness, attitude horizon line in OSD spins or tilts, and motor start is locked out.
Gimbal Protected Mode (Motor Overload)
DJI Osmo Pocket 3 screen flashes 'Gimbal Protected. Tap screen to resume' and the 3-axis motorized camera head drops limp into safe parking mode. Triggered when excessive resistance or external weight stalls the brushless motors.
ESC Error 30064: Motor Stalled / Speed Controller Overload
DJI Fly app halts takeoff with warning: "ESC Error 30064: Motor unable to rotate freely. Check for obstacles or contact DJI Support". The drone electronic speed controller senses abnormal back-EMF or excessive current draw on one of the four brushless arms.
ESC Status Abnormal Fault
Error 30064 indicates the flight controller lost valid bidirectional telemetry or detected an abnormal electrical state across the integrated 4-in-1 Electronic Speed Controller (ESC). This occurs when the ESC microcontroller detects a blown half-bridge MOSFET, an open/shorted motor phase winding, or overcurrent/phase desynchronization during pre-flight self-test.
